Fit & Fed: What is it?

We are running Fit & Fed across 5 sites over the summer holidays. Check our calendar for more details and specifics,

We started Fit & Fed because we saw a need for kids in the more disadvantaged areas to have the opportunity to have some fun whilst staying active regardless of background. We also saw that many hadn’t eaten for various reasons so we added the food and it became Fit & Fed. Our aim is to reach these young kids, get them running around and having fun, get them socialising and away from computer games or TV’s and get their Vitamin C from the sun. This blog post will be speaking about our Luton Primary, as I have had the pleasure to be here all week. The signing up process and basic information applies to all 5 sites, however the figures and times etc will be just for the Luton Primary Session.

Our Fit & Fed at Luton Primary is running 10am-2.30pm and is split into two sessions. Our morning session runs from 10am -12pm with lunch being given after the session; our second session is 12.30pm – 2.30pm where lunch is also given after. Our sessions are for ages 7-11, we do require a emergency contact details form to be filled out prior to the session. Forms can be found at the signing in desk upon arrival and can be filled out in a matter of minutes. This session is free, but we cannot have them participate until the form is filled out, in case of an emergency. So please do come along to fill the form for their first session with us to fill this out.

Booking in is inside the school gates, we then get them to stay on the premises until we have all the children, we then walk them around to the school field. We are also running arts and crafts inside the teachers break room, where the children can paint. Monday we are also running swimming classes, a separate form will need filling out for the swimming teacher. 10 minutes or so before the end of the session, we will return to school grounds where parents can pick them up.

Lunches consist of a sandwich, granola bar, apple, salted popcorn and a drink. Please do ensure they have a bottle of water for during the session and are wearing something comfortable for doing sports in. Upon signing in we do ask about any dietary requirements to ensure we serve appropriate sandwiches for your child.

Photography and filming may take place during your child’s time with us, so we do ask to make it clear on the form whether we have your consent or not. We will do our best to keep your child out of photographs for non-consented children, any concerns do not hesitate to contact us on info@olympiaboxing.co.uk

All staff on-site have all had a DBS (CRB) Check, are qualified coaches in various sports and have experience working with children with varying needs. The session is provided to give young children a safe space to participate in sports, get fed and have fun with their peers.

As well as sports being offered up, we also have art as an option; this is in partnership with Nucleus Arts, from textiles to painting the kids will have loads of fun. We also have an interview with Chloe from Nucleus Arts about what they do in their community and what they will be doing during Fit & Fed next week!

Visit https://www.nucleusarts.com/nucleus-arts-main-centre to check them out.

So far, we’ve had 82 across both sessions Monday, 118 Tuesday, 110 Wednesday and 108 Thursday at our Luton Primary Site in Chatham alone. We cannot wait for the rest of summer; we are running at Luton Primary Mon – Thurs every week of summer until Thursday 19th August.

I hope this has been helpful and informative. Any questions please email us and we can add that information onto this post for others to see. We appreciate your support.
