Coaching Breakdown

There are 5 parts to a typical session, here are these parts with a bit of an explanation on each. Each coach varies their approach and some combine a few steps into the same part but the main information remains very much the same. This is more of a guide to give you an idea on how we run the session, to give you or your child peace of mind and less of a surprise if you’re attending your first session.

Warm-Up

Introduction for the session (Especially for the new comers) followed up a warmup game. The Warmup game is usually a fun non-boxing related game; for example, stuck in the mud, dodgeball and chicken etc. This not only relaxes the participants but gets the blood pumping and muscles warmed up.

Skill Rehearsal

A Boxing related skill based game e.g. Box Tag. Box Tag is where two participants are put into a squared off area and move around in the boxing position and have to try to grab the other participants tag and pull it off, first one to succeed wins.

Techniques

This is where the coach will teach basic Footwork and Hand Co-ordination through drills, teaching the participants how to move and punch like a boxer.

Punches

This is the main part of the session and usually takes up most of the hour. This is when the gloves are on and the coach works on jab and backhand with the new comers and eventually over many sessions they move to more advanced techniques and combinations.

Cool Down

Then we have the cooldown, this is usually a game or two followed by stretches. Usually the participants decide which game they would like to play (This may vary depending on coach, they may decide the game themselves).
